Beulah Armenia "Boots" Johnston Hartz, 84 of Puxico, joined her ancestors on March 18, 2006. She was a resident at the Puxico Nursing and rehab Center in Puxico, Missouri. Beulah, know as "Boots" to her friends and family, was born on August 20, 1921 in Victoria, Natchotoches Parish, Louisiana to William Jones Johnston and Ora Bates Johnston. The family moved to Dale Spur, South of Puxico, where she was raised on the family farm. She attended the one-room Schools of Dale and Star during the early years. She married Oliver William "Bub" Hartz on October 7, 1936. Rev. Carl Ausbury, Assembly of God Church in Puxico officiated. The couple lived in St. Louis, Mo. during WWII then returned to Puxico. Beulah was a long time employee of the Puxico Handle Factory. She and "Bub" moved to Bakersfield, California in 1957. She worked for Sears - Federated Stores in Bakersfield. Boots and Bub were the organizing couple for the "Puxico Picnic" held in California over many years. During the 1980's, upon retirement, Bub and Boots returned to Puxico to live near two of her brothers, A. J. Johnston and Claude Johnston both of whom preceded her in death. Her youngest brother Bill Johnston of Front Royal, Va. also preceded her as well as a sister Margaret Johnston. Beulah is survived by her husband of almost 70 years. Oliver William Hartz, their son Clyde Dwain Hartz who lives in Northern Nevada, Christopher and Nicholas, her grandsons, three great-granddaughters, Jessica, Kathleen, Lauren and one great-grandson Bryce. She is sorely missed by family and friends. Friends may call after 6:00 PM on Monday, March 20, 2006, at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Puxico, Missouri. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday March 21, 2006, at 10:00 AM at the Watkins & Sons Chapel in Puxico, Missouri with the Rev. Wiley McGhee of Puxico, Missouri officiating. Interment will be in the Puxico Cemetery in Puxico, Missouri with Watkins and Sons Funeral Home of Puxico, Missouri in charge of arrangements.
