Charles Flavel Rannells, son of the late Charles Cartmell and Elise Rudolph Rannells, was born in St. Louis, Missouri on November 25, 1926, and passed away at the Crowley Ridge Care Center in Dexter, Missouri on December 1, 2013, at the age of 87 years 6 days. Mr. Rannells attended grade school and high school in Dexter, Missouri and then went on to complete three years at the University of Missouri before joining the United States Army. He was a U.S. Army Veteran who was awarded the World War II Victory Medal and the Army Occupied Japan Medal. He was a Corporal at his discharge in 1947. After returning from the service he was engaged in farming before beginning a career in construction with R.B. Potashnick, focusing on road and dams. He enjoyed gardening, hunting and fishing. He was a member at the First United Methodist Church in Dexter. He loved animals and his family. On December 1, 1954 he was married to Carolyn Groves in Sikeston, Missouri. Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Carolyn Rannells of Dexter, Missouri; one son, Greg Rannells of St. Louis, Missouri; one daughter and son in law, Karen and Robin Lemons of Shawnee, Kansas, two grandchildren, Lauren Lemons of Los Angeles, California and Michael Lemons of Shawnee, Kansas; and one sister, Elise Todd of Richardson, Texas. Other relatives and friends survive. Private Family Services will be held at a later date. The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Stoddard County Children's Home, PO Box 164, Dexter, Missouri 63841.
