Daniel Lee (Shorty) Burton of Morehouse, Missouri, son of the late Earl and Violet (Cato) Burton was born on March 29, 1927, in Polk County, Arkansas, and passed from this life on April 4, 2023, at Sikeston, Missouri, at the age of 96.
Shorty had lived in Southeast Missouri most of his life. He attended the Morehouse Assembly of God Church. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, spending time with family especially spoiling his grandchildren. He was known as a practical joker, a talker who liked to tell tall but believable fish stories.
He married Hazel Christine Freeman on February 6, 1952, in Piggott, Arkansas, remaining married until her passing on December 17, 2014.
Shorty is survived by one daughter, Sheila (Ronald) Stratton of Dexter, Missouri; five grandchildren, Jason (Jennifer) Burton of Morehouse; Pamela (Chris) Cross of Puxico, Missouri; Jami (Ryan) Greer of Navarre, Florida; Jeffery (Amanda) Stratton of Quilin, Missouri; Josh Appleton of Dexter; Dexter; as well as a host of family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one son, Delotes (Dodie) Burton, one grandson, Justin Lee Curd and great grandson, Kaleb Burton; and a close nephew, Ronnie Towe.
Visitation will be on Monday, April 10, 2023, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. with funeral service to follow at the Watkins and Sons Funeral Chapel in Dexter, Missouri, with Barbara Zook officiating.
Interment will follow at the Walker Cemetery in Bloomfield, Missouri, with Watkins And Sons Funeral of Dexter in charge of arrangements.
