Doris M. Crawford

August 5, 1936 — January 16, 2026

Doris May Hayden Crawford, beloved sister, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away surrounded by her family on January 16, 2026. Born in Puxico, Missouri, on August 5, 1936, to Willie and Effie Hayden, Doris was a graduate of the Puxico class of 1954. On December 23, 1956, she wed Jackie Crawford. Doris and Jack were married for 59 years until his passing in 2016. Doris spent much of her life as a homemaker, raising their five children and later taking care of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was known to be an excellent baker and cook, and Granny’s desserts were the crown jewel of many a holiday meal. Doris was an avid reader, and seldom could she be seen without her bible or a novel nearby. She loved keeping her mind sharp, often completing puzzles or crossword books faster than her family could provide them to her, and studiously tuning in to Wheel of Fortune. She loved nature and the many beautiful things God put in it, and enjoyed birdwatching and tending to her flowers. Even in her eldest years, Doris was an ever-present member of her community, attending Life Chapel Assembly of God in Puxico with her sister, Sharon, and always making her weekly beauty shop appointments.

Doris is preceded in death by her husband, Jack, her brothers, Carl and David Hayden, two grandchildren, Timothy Crawford and John Michael Hodge, and one great-grandchild, Addalyn Crawford. She is survived by her younger sister Sharon, her children, Daniel (Jenny) Crawford of Lowndes, MO, Travis (Nancy) Crawford of Puxico, MO, Roger (Amy) Crawford of Kingman, Arizona, Rita Hodge of Puxico, MO, and Jennifer (Matthew) Mitchell of Puxico, MO, her grandchildren Michael Crawford, Jessica Farris, Matthew Crawford, Rachel Crawford, Mikayla Bechtold, Micah Mitchell, Syntheria Crawford, Jaydon Mitchell, and her great-grandchildren Ryan Crawford, Hayden Farris, Wyatt Crawford, Alexia Hedgecorth, Amara Hedgecorth, Jordan Ramirez, and Jack Crawford, and her honorary grands, Emma and Ellie Payne.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that you make a donation to the Puxico Public Library in honor of Doris’s love of reading. PO Box 65, Puxico, MO, 63960, or dropped off at the library. Please address any checks to Puxico Public Library.
