James Roy Davis, son of the late William Franklin and Melvina Miller Davis, was born in Henderson, Kentucky on July 9, 1923, and passed away at the Puxico Nursing Center in Puxico on April 4, 2014, at the age of 90 years, 8 months and 25 days. He had moved to the Puxico area in 1950. He had worked for the Ford Motor Company, the Puxico Handle Factory, the V. A. Medical Center and was a farmer. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Puxico where he sang in the choir and a quartet. He played various musical instruments, enjoyed wood working and was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals. He had served in the U. S. Army, was a lifetime member of the Puxico V.F.W. Post 7822 and was a member of the U. A. W. On May 8, 1948, he was married to Rachel Brady in Piggott, Arkansas. Surviving are his wife, Rachel Davis of Puxico; one son & wife, Jim & Nikki Davis of Wappapello; one daughter & husband, Carol & Ronnal Clinton of Puxico; three granddaughters and husbands, Rachelle & Travis McGill, Tonna & Eric O'Dell all of Puxico, and Melissa Lam of Wappapello; two great granddaughters, Lydia & Phoebe O'Dell both of Puxico; and one sister, Louise Pendegrass of Marine, Illinois. Other family and friends also survive. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Darlene Davis; four brothers, Freddie, Virgil, and William "Short" Braswell and William Franklin Davis; four sisters, Marie Robertson, Mattie Braswell, Irene Simmons and Mattie Lee Astorian. Visitation will be held on Monday April 7, 2014, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Puxico, Missouri. The Puxico V.F.W. will conduct services at 7:00 p.m. during the visitation. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday April 8, 2014, at 10:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Puxico, Missouri with Rev. Kenneth Lambert of Bloomfield and Rev. Justin Miller of Puxico officiating. Interment will follow in the Puxico Cemetery in Puxico, Missouri with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Puxico in charge of arrangements.
