Tayshon David “Tay” Matthews of Cape Girardeau, son of John Matthews and Christina Ward, was born in Dexter, Missouri on March 25, 2006, and passed away north of Delta, Missouri on June 22, 2016, at the age of 10 years. He lived in Cape Girardeau and was a student at Franklin Elementary School in Cape Girardeau. Surviving are his mother, Christina M. Ward of Cape Girardeau; father, John D. Matthews of Malden; brothers, Jondreus & Phoenix Ward and sister, Jaidan Matthews all of Cape Girardeau; maternal grandparents, Martin Ward of Bloomfield, Lydia (Bill) Bohnert of Perryville; paternal grandmother, Valerie Matthews of Malden; maternal great grandparents, Norma Owens of Jackson and Truman Ward of Williamsville. Other relatives and friends also survive. He was preceded in death by paternal grandparent, Johnny Townsend Friends may visit on Monday, June 27, 2016, after 11:00 a.m. at the Watkins & Sons Chapel in Dexter, Missouri. Funeral services will be on Monday, June 27, 2016, at 1:00 p.m. at the Watkins & Sons Chapel in Dexter with the Rev. J. T. Tomison of Cape Girardeau officiating. Interment will follow at the Walker Cemetery near Bloomfield with Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home of Bloomfield, Missouri in charge of arrangements.
