Thomas Brooks Smith, son of the late Claude and Cora Izora Shipley Smith was born in Formosa, Arkansas, on July 15, 1936, and passed away at his home in Essex, Missouri on March 5, 2014, at the age of 77 years, 7 months, and 17 days. He had lived in Morehouse and Sikeston most of his life. He was a member of the First Assembly of God - Calvary Temple in Russellville, Arkansas. He attended Morehouse and Sikeston Schools and was a member of Russellville, Arkansas Masonic Lodge. He had worked and retired as Maintenance in Public School. He was a veteran of the U. S. Navy and received the China Service Medal. On August 20, 1994, he was married to Anice June Moore in Coursegold, California. She survives in the home. Surviving are his wife, Anice Smith of Essex; five sons, Gary Smith of Essex, Missouri, Tony Smith of Morehouse, Missouri, Tommy Don Smith of Watson, Arkansas, Stanley Smith of Ola, Arkansas, and Doug Smith of Ohio; two stepsons, Jerry Moore of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Bart Moore of Washington; nine grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; one brother, Bill Smith of Sikeston, Missouri; three sisters, Gloria McRoberts of Essex, Missouri, Claudette Howell of Taft, California, and Sharon Hart of Essex, Missouri. Other relatives and friends also survive. He was preceded in death by two grandchildren; one brother, Carroll Smith; and one sister, Charlene Baker. Friends may call on Monday March 10, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter, Missouri. Graveside services will be held Monday, March 10, 2014, at 1:00 p.m. at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield, Missouri with Rev. Leonard McMackin of the Word of Faith Church of Morehouse, Missouri officiating. Interment with be in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield, Missouri with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter in charge of arrangements. Memorial donations may be made to Shriners International, 2900 Rocky Point Dr., Tampa, Florida, 33607.
